Meet the People and Pets Behind Garland Rabbitry
Amy George- Owner
Hey! I am an absolute animal lover! I do not like excuses for abandoning a pet. I have a ton of pets and make time for each of them because when I got them, they were family. If you don't have time for a pet, don't get one in the first place. I understand if you move and can't take one with you or your child picked one out and isn't taking care of it. It breaks my heart to see so many pets in kill shelters. Take the time to find it a home or find someone who can foster it for awhile or just look for a rescue group that has room. Check out kill shelters before going to the flea market or pet store to pick out a pet. Sure, you might not find a tiny full blooded puppy but mutts don't have as many health issues and are normally easier to train.Take your time to meet every dog, cat, small animal, or reptile before giving up. At kill shelters, they have maybe 2 weeks to find a home. This is what I feel strongly about and this is why I foster any animal I have room for. Breeding show rabbits is a hobby and if they don't sell, I can turn them into food.
Greg Garland- Co-Owner
Hey. Amy calls me the "rabbit whisperer". Seems like all the rabbits who like to bite or scratch, just seem to chill when I hold them. Besides helping with the animals, I work on cars. I have a garage on the side that I do great fast work for a fraction of the cost. I love building drag cars and have had a few in the past. I was Farmington's rookie of the year in 1998. I love animals and no matter what Amy brings home, we always make room. I can't turn away anything!
Iian- Owner's Son
Hey. I love animals just like my mom. I love playing with my cars and Nerf guns. I play Basketball and Soccer. I'm super out going and spend a lot of my time helping out with all the animals. I love playing with all of the baby bunnies, dogs, snakes, cats, and the adult buns. I recently received my first pair of rabbits. I now have started my own rabbitry. My rabbitry is George Rabbitry and the website is www.georgerabbitry.weebly.com.
Elijah- Owner's Son
What's Up? I love animals too! I like playing with my mini skateboards and BeyBlades. I play Basketball and love to skateboard. I'm pretty laid back and like to just hold and pet the animals. I'll feed and water them but not a fan of cleaning under cages and stuff.
Jasmine- Owner's Daughter
Hello. The bunnies are all so cute! I love love LOVE to color. I also love to paint my nails, put on makeup, dress up, and do my hair. I am the diva! I'll play with all of the animals. They are all so cute! But if they're dirty, EWWW!
Reese- Family Cat
This crazy kitten is Reese. She was adopted from a friend who had an unexpected litter of kittens. I have always loved calico cats and decided that we have room for one more. She is a lover and a fighter. She has become the queen of the cats. She has inspired me to make my house a cat paradise.
Oreo- Owner's Cat
This is the trouble maker. She wants to "play" with every animal. Her favorite spot in the house is on top of the TV. I named her when I was pregnant and I was craving some Oreos. We saved her from a basement. Her mom was hit by a car and she was only 3 weeks old and still on milk. She was litter trained by 4 weeks and was off milk also. She is amazing. She upset my BIG dog Jack and he pinned her. Because he is so big, just the sudden bump caused her jaw to break. She has a wire in her mouth and it will stay there until it bothers her. Super friendly and will come up and want attention from anyone. Her meow is so quiet that it sounds like a baby kitten.
Zoe- Co-Owner's Cat
This is the curious baby. Shy and will watch from a distance. Absolute daddy's girl. She likes him to hold her like a baby and has to have "daddy time" every morning before he goes to work. She is Oreo's sister. She looks just like her mom. Breaks my hear what happened but their story has a happy ending. All of the kittens were adopted and are happy house cats. They ended up pets instead of wild cats.
Garfield- Co-Owner's Cat
Reese unexpectedly had a litter of kittens. We had all of them lined up for new homes and this one's new owner couldn't have him. Greg got so attached that I let him decide if we were going to keep him or put him up for adoption again. He chose to keep him. Garfield is an independent little guy who is definitely a lap cat.
Syaithaan- Owner and Co-Owner's Eastern Box Turtle
This little boy was a rescue. He was in some tall weeds at an abandoned garage. A friend of ours opened the garage back up and needed the weeds cut so he could park cars there. Greg was cutting weeds and nicked this little boy's shell. He took him home because with that garage opened, there was no safe place for him to go. With active garages all around and busy roads, we didn't want anything bad to happen to him. He is beautiful and is in a 4 foot by 3 foot outdoor enclosure for the winter and will be expanding to an 8 foot by 3 foot enclosure in the spring.
Jack- Owner's Australian Shepherd Mix
This is my second in command. If I think something is wrong inside the house, he will do "rounds". I open the door to a room and he walks around the room and sniffs. If everything is OK, he walks out. Gladly nothing has been wrong yet. He is extremely smart and knows a ton of tricks. He is very obedient. When I walk anywhere he is always behind me. If I'm laying on the couch, he is laying in front of it. This might sound odd but I find it funny, when I go to the restroom he will sit at the door until I come out. Unfortunately he has fear aggression and seems to be afraid of anyone he has not met. He is scared of baths and I have to literally get in the tub with him and hide his face while Greg bathes him. He is still a puppy and over 90 lbs. We stopped weighing him because Greg can't pick him up anymore. He use to get held like a baby and still begs for Greg to hold him.
Rambo- Co-Owner's Short Legged Jack Russel
This guy is an attention hog! He doesn't bark at people to say go away, but instead he barks to get your attention. He expects everyone to just run over to him and pet him. He is also a drama queen. He will pretend to have a hurt paw so that he won't have to go in his kennel. Sometimes, he will yelp if you try and get him off of the couch. He loves bath time and will stand there enjoying the massage while you put the soap on. He is also the calmest Jack Russel I have ever seen. The breed is known for their jumping. Rambo rarely jumps. He would rather curl up on your lap to watch TV.
Brownie- Co-Owner's Mix Breed
This guy is amazing. I saw his photo on a Monday and my heart broke. He was to be put to sleep on that Wednesday. I drove hours away to rescue this guy from the death sentence on that Tuesday. He has shown to be amazing. If someone new comes over, he reads their body language, and adjusts his energy to match. He is calm around babies and small children. He is hyper and playful around energetic older kids. He is calm around adults who don't appreciate dogs jumping on them. He is a big lover to those adults who love dogie loving.
Coda- Owner's Mix Breed
Copper- Owner's Boa
This is the sweetest snake you will ever meet. He is the only snake I have seen beg to come back out of the cage after being held and put away. He will just lay there on you and he loves to lay his head in the palm of your hand. He enjoys having his chin rubbed. He prefers to wrap around the wrist. He was in shed in this picture and he was still a doll baby!
